At the still-point in the center of the circle one can see the infinite in all things.

Circular forms
I first drew an Ensō as part of the Taogram series — and this symbol of all symbols never let me go. Drawing Ensō is a disciplined yet creative practice in Japanese calligraphy, typically executed in a single, fluid stroke. The circle may be open or closed. Zen practitioners often connect it to Wabi-Sabi — the beauty of imperfection. Many Japanese calligraphers practice drawing Ensō daily throughout their careers, as active meditation and in the pursuit of an unattainable mastery.
I draw Ensō regularly as part of my own meditative practice, working with Sumi ink and mineral pigments on Washi paper — appreciating the imperfection, originality, and individuality of each circle. From there, the collection has grown naturally, expanding into related forms and approaches.
Circles, dots, and spheres continue to fascinate me.

The series unfolds in four distinct approaches:

Zen Circles
The foundation of the collection — classical Ensō drawings rooted in the meditative spirit of Shodo, alongside newer interpretations in mineral pigments and color. Each circle a moment, captured in a single gesture.

Spheres
Where Zen Circles are gestural and immediate, Spheres emerge slowly — through concentric layers of ink or pigment that seep into the paper, growing from the center outward.

Oculi
Here it is not the painted form that is circular, but the frame itself. Oculi are circular apertures — openings that reframe perception and transform how we understand what lies within. Each work opens a self-contained world, inviting a new way of seeing.
